The 2005 English Living Environment Carnival
Taiwan is facing the impact of globalization and the changing mode of worldwide competitiveness. In order to strengthen Taiwan's international competitiveness, in May 2002, the Executive Yuan included “Action Plan for Building an English Living Environment” in the “Challenging 2008-National Development Key Plans” and this Commission is held responsible for overall planning, coordination, and promotion. In March 2005 the Executive Yuan amended the “Action Plan for Building an English Living Environment” and the overall goals was revised “to change the writing for public signs to Chinese-English, internationalize pictograms, and bilingualize related websites by 2008, as well as provide internationalized living service, construct a professional talent introduction mechanism, and attract foreign nationals to stay in Taiwan, in order to strengthen Taiwan's worldwide competitiveness.”
It's the third year that English Living Environment Carnival is held since 2003 and we are pleased to see a high quality English living environment has been rooted, developed and become sustainable development. We also see various objective plans have exhibited some stunning yet pleasant achievements. This year we will welcome English Living Environment Carnival 2005 with an open-mind and we believe that Taiwan , as a member in the global village, is an epitome of an international world. “Taiwan Global Village” is growing and developing stronger right now.
