Principal Achievements:

1.Bilingual Signage

Bilingualization of agency nameplates, office signs, staff name plates and identification cards are completed.

2. Bilingual Services

•  All the brochures concerning foreign affairs, including application of Permanent Residency, Police Record Certificate, Notice for visit extension, Notice for Residence, Notice for Aliens Residing in the R.O.C., Notice for Entry and Exit, Traffic Regulation Reminder, and Introduction to the ID number, and Punishment and Fines.

•  Anti-fraud bookmarks

•  Introduction of TCP mounted police squad, bicycle patrol, heavy-duty motorcycle and police band

•  Mascot magnets with contact information of precinct of domicile

•  Terms and titles of Taipei County Government Police Bureau.

•  FAQ for aliens residing or visiting Taiwan

•  Three service hotlines are set up for aliens: Bilingual hotline to Foreign Affair Service Center (02) 2959-4811; Calls to Duty Commander Center 110; Toll-free hotline for foreign spouses 0800-250-880

•  Foreign Affair Service Center processes applications regarding visa extension for aliens residing in or visiting R.O.C.

3. Training for English proficiency

•  To prepare staff for General English Proficiency Test, tutors are hired to lecture 2 hours per week in Taipei County Government Police Bureau in 2005.

•  English club is set up. The club holds activities and English competitions regularly.

•  Mini library is established. Magazines, such as Studio Classroom, and textbooks for General English Proficiency Test are available.

•  English programs are broadcast daily.

•  English Teaching program is designed as part of the police annual training.

•  English conversations often used are provided for volunteers, information counter, and duty command center.

4. Bilingual website

The website has English, Chinese, and children versions.

5. New Initiatives

•  Mounted police squad, bicycle police service squad, heavy-duty motorcycle unit and police band are set up. They perform duties in sightseeing spots where foreigners often visit.

•  Police Band participated in 2005 International Band Festival to interact with the world by music.

•  New measures are implemented to enhance service quality. For example, the required quantity of transcript of household registration is reduced; the police record certificate may be applied in a precinct; Foreign Affair Service Center is open during lunchtime and on Wednesday night the center is not closed until 8 o'clock pm.

•  Campaigns for law and regulations concerning foreign spouses are held.

•  In collaboration with Taipei County Government, the bureau set up the Audiovisual Service Center for Foreign Spouses. Information on food, accommodations, transportation, is provided in five languages, Chinese, English, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese.
